When people from the whole world went under lockdown during the first Covid-19 wave, nature clearly took a breath of fresh air. Animals dared venture out of the forest more often, river waters became clearer and even CO2 emissions dropped.
This summer is also different to the other years. Our holiday plans had to change: we are spending our time at home or aren’t travelling as far as usual. Coronavirus has also made us more aware of other people, we socially distance ourselves, constantly wash our hands and have to organise our summer activities differently. Many of us go on hikes in nature parks, participate in bike rides in the country or go camping – sometimes in the garden!
These activities are great fun, because they force us to take the time to discover our environment in a new light and with closer attention. We find so much out that we were formerly unaware of and are (re)connecting with nature and life close to home. In addition, our holidays are much more sustainable this way! In other words, this is a true #SlowTourism and #VakanzDoheem experience.
What is this challenge all about? It’s about showing us what you are doing differently this summer compared to other summer holidays. Why are your holidays this year more sustainable than before? What have you done to really enjoy this time of year while at the same time protecting nature and preventing climate change? Tell us about your adventures!
How you share your story is up to you. For example, you can film a short documentary (max. 1.30 minutes), take a great picture, paint a pretty work of art, do a collage, write a story, sing your own songs... There are no limits to your imagination in this challenge! It is open to anyone from C2 to 5e and there will be several categories based on age groups.
Tell us about your adventures by 14 September and send your submission to: firstname.lastname@example.org ! Don’t forget to tell us your name and age when you submit your piece.
We are looking forward to hearing from you! The ten best submissions will be rewarded with a Restopolis Frupstut set, meaning that the winners will receive an original Restopolis Frupstut cotton lunch bag with a 0.5-litre stainless steel flask (that can be used for both hot and cold drinks), a myKit cutlery set with a fork, knife and spoon, as well as a small 500-ml. ECOBOX.
