Have you ever found stones, pebbles or cobbles whose shape reminded you of an animal, an object, or a person? Perhaps this stone made you dream of an enchanted place full of fabulous creatures?

In this challenge, you have the opportunity to bring these otherwise inert stones and pebbles to life. Tell us your favourite tale, story, or poem and bring it to life with your "story stones". If you have an idea to create your own story or version of a story or poem... Go ahead! Unleash your creativity and imagination!

Material:

  • Pebbles, stones, cobbles (failing that: corks or caps).
  • Permanent felts and/or acrylic paint.
You can also draw your designs on a sheet of paper. Then you cut them out and glue them on your pebbles. You can also colour in your stones using the napkin technique and some DIY glue. You will certainly find a way to suit your creativity and imagination. If not, you can do an internet search, using the keywords "story stones" or "galets histoire".
  • Tablet, computer or mobile phone to save and transfer your work.
  • The “Structure and Lexicon" document in the appendix to help you write and tell your story.

How to participate:

Cycle 2 - Cycle 3

  • Choose a poem or text from the list in the appendix. By clicking on the link, you can also listen to the poem.
  • Draw the characters, objects, and settings that play a role in your poem on your stones, pebbles, or cobbles using one of the techniques described at the top of the page.
You can draw whatever you want: characters (girl, boy, grandmother, leprechaun, a family, ...), objects or animals (coach, car, horse, wolf, owl, unicorn, ...) or the scenery (trees, forest, thatched cottage, castle on a rock, mountains, ...).
  • Learn the poem by heart and practice reciting it while moving your "stone actors".
  • When you are ready, record your animated story using a mobile phone, tablet or any other recording device.
  • Submit your recorded masterpiece to challenge@script.lu (or use WeTransfer for very large files) by May 11, 2020.

Cycle 3 - Cycle 4

  • Imagine your own story or make up your own version of a fairy-tale, fable or poem. Write your text in a Word, Pages or OpenOffice document. If you prefer to write your notes on a sheet of paper, you can also take a photo of your handwritten notes (check for quality and readability).
  • Draw the characters, objects and settings that play a role in your story on stones, pebbles or cobbles. You can use acrylic paints or permanent markers.
