The app Katze mit tz helps children to start spelling in a playful way and to practice a basic vocabulary. In the 'Preliminary exercises' section, phonological awareness is trained.
The acquisition of German spelling is done by lead animals. Each animal stands for a certain spelling phenomenon (e.g. Katze for tz). Each word group is practiced separately in this way.
Behind each lead animal is a learning card index, which contains five learning steps. This way the learners acquire the spelling of the basic vocabulary and form their first spelling rules. A total of around 450 words are practised in this way. The coloured area behind the animals shows the progress in the corresponding group.
